one man
hi everyone,
i know that many of us were extremely fortunate to have had the
opportunity to sit and listen to Steve Gonzalez (one of the st. bernard locals) hold court at and after dinner
last week. his story is one that is impossible to forget and
impossible to ignore. like many of us, i heard him tell his story
several times. you would think it would get old. not true. steve
neared tears each night as he spoke about his wife and his community
center. in retelling his stories, the strength and emotion behind them
only got stronger.
if you didn't get a chance to spend time with steve, or you just feel
like you need to be with him again, here's an interview.....

Hi! Thanks everyone for a great trip. Since I've been back and have been talking endlessly about what I've experienced, I've had a lot of people ask me how they can head down and help out on their own(their timing hasn't matched up with any OneBrick trips) - does anyone know where I should direct them? Thanks!
thanks mick for sharing this. i was not fortunate enough to meet steve gonzalez at camp hope, but will be sure to look for him. i listened to his interview this morning and was totally moved by it.
Hey for the volunteering... if the want to volunteer ontheir own (not thru OneBrick) they should go directly to the NOLA Habitat site and look at some projects and see what they're interested in. the problem is, Camp Hope is packed it seems through April so it might be necessary to get accomodations in the quarter. (I might be doing that in March with some cousins). Keep me posted on what your friends decide to do, maybe inns and hotels give group rates/discounts to volunteers? wishful thinking?
